The slightest and seemingly most insignificant actions can create chain reactions that accumulate into much larger and wide spreading events. These events and the resulting aftermath are envisioned in the Ripples into the Universe series as abstract sculptures composed of ripples that disperse and collide with other ripples, coalescing into an undulating and ever-changing existence. Imagine the ripples created in a pond when a person throws a handful of pebbles into the water. They are vast, dispersing, and seem to reverberate to no end. Now imagine the ripples created by every living creature continuously throwing pebbles into an endless pond, a pond not only influenced by the pebbles, but the cosmos as well. This is much harder to grasp one’s mind around and is the effect I strive to create within my work.
A visual representation of the complexity of this rippling action is created abstractly as ribbon-like forms that move in space. At times, these ribbon-like forms appear to be on a specific path until suddenly twisting and changing trajectory or converging with other ribbon-like structures. Within the surface of these larger forms are smaller swirling and rippling forms. This is done to suggest the energy and micro events that compel the larger form onward. The overall sculptures are an interpretation of time and space and the chain events that make up our existence.
